The
European Culture Centre is established on 9th May 2004 by 39 Russe art
and culture figures. It is non-profit association registered under
Non-Profit Juridical Bodies Law. Its godmother is European commissar
Meglena Kuneva who is its honorary member.
Among the priorities of the Centre are the creation of products in the area of culture, strengthening the positions and development of cultural traditions of the town of Russe as well as stimulation the possibilities for co-operation with cultural institutes from other European countries.
During its four-year existence the European Culture Centre has imposed itself as an important figure in public life in the town and took the acknowledgement by state, municipality and public authorities and organizations.
During this period scores of art and documental exhibitions were realized, established foreign and domestic authors were presented, a number of meetings, discussions, readings were arranged.
The “Cannibal Woman” play by Ivan Radoev where some Russe public’s favourite actors returned on the scene of Russe theatre, the exhibition of works by the famous Bulgarian artist Zlatyu Boyadzhiev as well as the first in the world exhibition of organ-building arranged in connection of the restoration of the oldest organ in Bulgaria located in Russe, are outlined in the work biography of the European Culture Centre.
Among the key moments in the actions of the European Culture Centre are the arranging of the National Annual Meeting of European Information and Documental Centres in the county, the carrying out of mini Berlin Conference suggested by then minister of European issues and present European commissar Meglena Kuneva, the “Paralel Worlds” exhibition realized together with the USA Embassy, the exhibitions “One Century Ireland” and “150 Years of the Establishment of The Office of Public Works of Ireland” realized in co-operation with the Embassy of Republic of Ireland in Bulgaria.
With the support of the Regional Governor and the Mayor of Russe in May 2005 some premises in the emblematic for our town building – the Dohodno Zdanie – were given to the European Culture Centre.
The ambitions of the European Culture Centre are to find its role among the cultural institutes and institutions in our common European area through the participation in various projects and realization of various culture events.
